Antioxidant Powerhouse

For those of you who know me, can confirm that I have a tendency for extremes, especially when it comes to my eating habits. When I (re)discover a new food and happen to like it, I don't just take a nibble every once a while or include "a bit" in my meals like a regular person. No, I literally obsess about it and consume it in quantities, which can be compared to an Olympic swimmer's daily food intake. So if December was the month of my chai obsession, then January should be called the "green gold month", when I rediscovered matcha. As any person with extreme behaviour knows, we try to find excuses to justify our obsession. However after doing some research, I can thankfully continue sipping on my matcha lattes and and enjoy the countless benefits without a shred of guilt. But before I share with you my favourite TOP 5 benefits of this green wonder powder, I need to point out that like so many so-called superfoods, not all matcha is created equal. Like with the famous olive oil, manuka honey and other fake food scandals which haven been reported in recent years, unfortunately Matcha has become the latest victim of food fraud. I therefore highly encourage you to inform yourself before you invest your money AND health in matcha tea. As a nutritionist, I pride myself in only recommending the highest quality brands and products to my clients as I appreciate the enormous responsibility which comes with supporting others in regaining their optimal health. And there is one brand, which really stood out for many reasons; for it's quality, brand's integrity and mission... It is the withinUs TruOrganic Matcha. If you want to read more about their unique matcha, then please visit their informative site here and learn all about why this one is so special.

Here are my TOP 5 favourite benefits:

1.)  It has 137x (!!) more antioxidants than regular green tea

2.)  It contains the mood enhancing amino-acid L-Theanine, which helps to boost memory and concentration. It has been reported to also increase levels of the "happy hormone" serotonin, dopamine and GABA (neurotransmitter, which helps to control anxiety and stress).

3.)  The powerful detoxifying chlorophyll found in matcha helps to eliminate both chemicals and heavy metals from the body. Since matcha is carefully shade grown, it is also significantly richer in chlorophyll than other green teas.

4.)  By drinking 1 cup of matcha tea, you receive the nutritional equivalent of 10 cups of regular green tea

5.)  As a foodie and chef, I love the fact that it's so versatile. The consistency of the powder allows you to include it in smoothies, raw energy balls, desserts (matcha ice cream anyone?) and of course nut milks
